The National tournament that we took part in is governed by the Walking Football Association (WFA) They are forging ahead with this development by creating England teams for over 50s and over 60s. They have appointed a Manager for each group and will be holding trials in the New Year. Players have to be nominated by clubs that have affiliated with the WFA. At the moment we are not affiliated but this will soon be done. So far 2 Clevedon players have asked to be nominated ie Danny Ward and Fred Ivermee in the over 60 category . The purpose of this post is to let all players know about this opportunity . Details at the moment are very sparse in terms of when and where other than next early next year. If anyone is interested please let me know. Anyone applying should understand that whilst the FA offer some insurance for their games to the best of our knowledge WFA do not. Other factors to consider is the amount of travelling involved including potential overseas. Amount of training involved where and when. Sorry thats about all I know at the moment but as and when things become clearer they will be passed along.

Just to let you all know that we are now affiliated to the WFA as well as the FA. This means we can nominate players to the new England Teams, and also it means we can enter two teams to next year's National WFA Tournament. If anyone wants to be nominated to the WFA trials, please let Keith know asap as they are being held in January and we need to register your interest. Bear in mind the points made by Keith above about commitment to training and travelling - no more info on this so far.

Just an update on the Wales WFA team selection...they are advertising for a manager and assistant manager currently then will need to get their skates on to hold their trials etc in readiness for this year's home nations tournament which will be followed next year with the European champs. By the way Birmingham (representing England) beat the Wales representative team 8 - 1 recently and played some great football.

Over the last few weekends, the trials for the new National England teams in the 50+ and 60+ categories took place in Cirencester. Five of our players attended: Nigel Clarke and Roger Eyles in the 50s, Lewis Ford, Nigel Williams and Danny Ward in the 60s. We won't know their fates for a while, as the regional trials are ongoing, but it sounds like they all gave a very good account of themselves. Good luck lads! Pic below is Danny, Nigel and Lewis with Stuart Langworthy, the England 60+ manager and all the 60+ participants. BBC Points West were at the 60+ trials See the following link to the News Item on today's lunchtime episode - it starts 5 mins and 54 secs into the episode and there are interviews by Danny and Lewis and you can spot Nigel in the background playing too!: linkIt only lasts until tomorrow, but I have asked for a copy of the clip to put on our website, so hoping they will be nice and comply!
