I was saddened to learn from David that Bob is not beating his battle with cancer. For those of you who do not know Bob he started playing with us a few years ago. He started out on the right but then showed maybe his best position in goal. He usually played on Fridays and has played in goal at tournaments. Last year he, with me, very often would ref and he would stand no nonsense . As a longtime Bristol Rovers fan he has very often educated me on the merits of being a "Gashead "
For those of you who do know Bob,may I encourage you to perhaps send him an email of encouragement to try and lift his spirit at this difficult time.
His email is wolseleygas@btinternet.com

David gave us the very sad news at this evenings session that Bob had passed away yesterday. He will give us the Funeral arrangements as I know there will be players who will be going. In typical Bob fashion the family have asked attendees not to wear black instead wear Blue. Bob was a true "Gashead " . Rich Orr came up with a good idea for players attending to wear our Blue tops and David liked the idea.
A few of us knocked some ideas about in how best to remember Bob. The favoured thought at the moment is to hold an in-club tournament later in the year with mixed ages playing for the Bob Pountney Trophy. All players will be invited to play in it. It will also give David a chance to play.
As soon as we get any further details we will of course put it on the forum.
Finally a message to Bob in Gashead heaven,,,,,We drink in your honour tonight Bob cheers I was proud to have played with you.

I would like to echo Keith's comments and I was gutted to hear the very sad news about Bob. May I also say on a personal note Bob was one of the nicest chaps I have had the pleasure of being around. He was a true gentleman and also to Dave, you showed immense bravery on Friday and I admire you in what must be an awfully sad time for you and your family. Rest in Peace Bob.

Very nice Keith and Jerry, he always loved his football and walking football gave him a chance to do it again with is disability. As some of you know, he stopped going over a winter period and after going through my depression with work, I said to him if he went back, I'll come back with you. I love it so much and would have told me to carry on with it. Everyone is a good laugh and for a young player like me, I fell appreciated to play with the best. I'll never forget, even though he played in goal, first time I went he scored his first goal - exactly 2 year ago. He never got to enjoy his retirement and did say that he would have gone to the Thursday sessions as well. You probably would have never thought it but he was never a socialising person in his later years but when it comes to football and any fellow Gasheads, that was it, you've made a friend for life. Rovers flow in the blood and will always be part of the family.

Even when Bob was too ill to play, he came along to watch and help on Friday nights. As others have said, he was such a lovely person and we will all miss him very much. The spontaneous applause from everyone last night said it all about how we all felt about Bob. David - our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time xx

Having had some time to digest the very sad news from Dave; I would like to add my sincere condolences to Bob's family following his passing. Friday night sessions haven't quite been the same since Bob was forced to stop playing however he came down with Dave and referred some of the games. He was by far the best referee and policed them in fair manner. When he whistled for a foul, running or high ball there wasn't anyone who questioned his decision which goes some way to prove the type of guy he was; a real gent as others have said. We will miss Bob very much and will support Dave in his walking football sessions.

So sad to hear of Bob's passing. I really enjoyed his company at walking football and to listen to his knowledge about Bristol Rovers. UTG! Bob's son David is a credit to the family and like Bob is so friendly and loves his football, especially Rovers. RIP Bob - you will not be forgotten.

Just to let everyone know, dads funeral will be held on the 22nd May at 12.30 at the Holy Trinity Church in Cleeve (94 Main Rd, Cleeve, Bristol BS49 4PN) and the wake at Kinston Seymour village hall (BS21 6XE) after a private cremation. As suggested by Rich, wearing the training tops will be nice but anything with blue on. Any donations can be made to Macmillan Cancer Support. Sam, if possible can you forward this info on the anyone who doesn't use the forum? David
