Today we welcomed teams from Keynsham,Bristol and Weston to the first over 65 tournament
in the South West.
Clevedon 0-1 Keynsham
We conceded an early goal just inside Gerry's right hand post. It was clear we were playing
far to deep .We started to push forward and began to play our way back into the game. We
had some good shots at goal but couldn't score the equaliser.
Clevedon 1-1 Bristol United
Again we conceded an early goal in a similar position. At times we played some neat football
but at other times are passing went astray. Late in the game we were awarded a free kick. We
took it quickly and just as Lewis was about to shoot the defender went into the box and we were
awarded a penalty. Danny stepped up and calmly scored to bring us level.
Clevedon 2-0 Weston
After a little shuffle of player positions we really found our feet in this game. We were passing much
better and generally on top. Pete found himself up from the back and shot. The keeper got a hand to it
but he couldn't keep it out. The second goal came from a good passing movement between Pete,Roger
and Lewis who rifled one home.
Keynsham won the tournament and we finished second.Weston and Bristol were third and fourth.
There is much to take and learn from these games and work on for the future.
On a personal note it was good to get some competitive games played after more than a year out. I
have a long way to go to get to back to something like I used to play. May I thank my team mates for carrying
me through the games today.
Its now thanks time.
First Danny for organising the event. It went very well.
Brian Rose for cooking all the food despite having a severe
case of man flu, very brave.
Mike for being the second ref and collecting the money from all the teams.
Pete for helping me mark out the cones and discs and sweeping snow off the far pitch.
Eric for doing all the stuff he does.
There will be at least 2 other similar tournament organised later in the year. Such was the good spirit
of all the matches today. All 4 teams competed well and played fairly.
