Hi All, I think we need to sort a more permanent solution to managing the sessions, especially given the numbers attending. We have tried have refs on a voluntary basis, someone reffing and playing, and different people reffing each of the 20 minute sessions. I feel none of these have proven to be satisfactory, so we need a more structured approach. Personally I hate doing it! What I would suggest is that we have a rota of willing referees - we need, say 2 - 4 or more people who don't mind doing it. After reffing a session one week, they get the next session they attend free of charge to play. If there were 4 people that would only amount to one a month. It would also mean those people would build up good experience of refereeing and consistency in decision making would get much better. It could be a flexible rota, where we put up a list of dates and people sign up to ones they can do, and the rest of us fill in the gaps if none of the regulars are available. Can I ask firstly if people think this is a good idea, and secondly, assuming we go for it, who wants to volunteer to be on the rota? Comment below.

I think having a referee is a good idea and I am also willing to be a ref. However, I would prefer not to ref for a full one hour session. If we had a pool of refs then we could do 20 minutes each, obviously we need 3 refs per session which may not be practical.

First I'd like to thank those who have had the whistle, it isn't an easy task to ref and play. I have a similar opinion to Pete. I'd happily do 20 minutes as ref every 3 or 4 weeks. We had 20 people on Thursday. If each person committed to a 20 minute session it would mean being the ref once every 6 weeks. I'd still pay my £3 even when being the ref, but we could drop it to £2 if you did one 20 mins session, a quid for every 20 minutes played. There might be the odd occasion that the ref would play as well to keep the sides / game even.

Happy to go on the refs rota, as and when required.

I will volunteer to ref once per month and don't mind doing it for the complete session.

Wouldn't mind refing for a 20 mins session but not all the morning, not worried about fee.

I think we need refs and am happy to go on a rota. I guess each ref should invest in a whistle!

Great - thanks to those who have volunteered already. I'll put a rota up in the Portacabin and I think the easiest way of doing it is if people sign up to slots - either whole or part sessions. If you haven't already volunteered you can sign up to slots as you wish. If there are gaps we'll have to sort out on the day. Who wants to do this Thursday?

Here is a copy of the rota I will put up tomorrow in the portacabin. Do we have a volunteer ref or three for tomorrow? Referee Rota.xlsx (13.09 KB)

Thank you to Mike for refereeing today's session, which was excellent. Both competitive and friendly, very close, in fact I don't know what the final score was! Does it matter? Not when it is so much fun.
